Swiss-type lathe or turn-mill? How to choose

Buyers keep asking us: "Swiss-type lathe or turn-mill — which one?" The answer is simpler than it looks. Start with your bar diameter.

Swiss-type lathe: Φ2–38mm bar, guide-bushing support keeps long thin parts chatter-free, front/back done in one setup, positioning down to 0.001mm. Ideal for watch, medical and connector parts — Rui'an 125/205/385/386 covers the range.

Turn-mill / turning center (Rui'an QPR-46M): Φ46mm bar bore, Φ420mm swing, 330mm turning length, 12-station BNT40-12T power turret — turning, milling, drilling and tapping in one clamping. 4500rpm / 7.5kW spindle. For mid-size automotive and hardware parts with many operations.

Three-line rule:

  1. Bar ≤Φ12mm and parts slim → Swiss-type.
  2. Bar Φ12–46mm, many operations, needs milling/drilling → turn-mill QPR-46M.
  3. Larger diameters, heavy cuts, long shafts → turret lathe (HMS-550: Φ580mm swing, 540mm turning).

Not sure? Send your drawing or part photo to Rui'an — we reply with a machine recommendation within 30 minutes based on diameter × length × operations × batch.
